Bridgeport, CT — Sawubona is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $25,000
grant from the Kashulon Foundation through the auspices of Silver Hill Hospital. This
generous investment will support the organization’s efforts to strengthen and expand its
impact on youth mental wellness through creative expression and social-emotional
learning.
Founded by Charles J. Morgan, MD, Sawubona is dedicated to nurturing the resilience of
youth and their families through creative expression. Through partnerships with
community organizations, schools, and mental health professionals, Sawubona creates
opportunities for young people to develop emotional awareness, self-confidence, and
healthy coping skills in supportive environments.
The Kashulon Foundation grant will allow Sawubona to take important next steps in
organizational growth and program development. Specifically, the funding will support
efforts to better quantify and evaluate program outcomes, enabling the organization to
measure the impact of its work more effectively. The grant will also expand training
opportunities for staff, volunteers, and facilitators who deliver services to youth and
families.
“At Sawubona, we believe that every child deserves to be seen, heard, and believed,” said
Charles J. Morgan, MD, Founder and President of Sawubona. “This grant will help us
strengthen our ability to demonstrate the effectiveness of our programs while investing in
the people who make this work possible. We are deeply grateful to the Kashulon
Foundation and Silver Hill Hospital for their confidence in our mission.”
Sawubona extends special thanks to Andrew Gerber, MD, PhD, President and Medical
Director of Silver Hill Hospital and Vice President of the Sawubona Board of Directors, for
his steadfast support of the organization’s mission and vision. His leadership and
commitment to youth mental wellness have helped strengthen the partnership between
Silver Hill Hospital and Sawubona, creating new opportunities to serve young people and
their families.
The funding comes at a critical time as communities continue to address the growing
mental health needs of young people. By enhancing evaluation systems and professional

development, Sawubona will be better positioned to deliver high-quality, evidence-
informed programming and to expand its reach in the years ahead.
Sawubona extends its sincere appreciation to the Kashulon Foundation, Silver Hill Hospital,
and all of its community partners for their shared commitment to advancing youth mental
wellness and resilience.
